Ensure succession
Everything you ever wanted to know about inheritance
A sudden death, an inheritance... often a taboo subject with many dimensions. But one thing is certain: open dialogue with all those involved remains essential. So the watchword is: talk! Next, take stock of your estate and your heirs and check the inheritance tax rates. The aim is to minimise these as much as possible through a donation, a will or a clause of accrual.
Purpose
Succession insurance is a Branch 21 decease insurance policy under Belgian law with a minimum term of one year.
Inheritance insurance is only available under a non-taxable policy and is designed to protect the insured's loved ones – who are the policyholders under this policy – from the impact of high inheritance tax.
In the event of the insured person's death, they receive the insured amount of the estimated tax and the impact remains limited for them.
How much inheritance tax will you have to pay?
- In Flanders, inheritance tax is 3% for children and spouses and can rise to 55 % for heirs who are not direct descendants.
- In Brussels and Wallonia, this percentage can even reach for indirect heirs.
